In recent years, moot courts have emerged as an indispensable part of legal education, offering a practical approach to understanding and applying the law. This innovative teaching method has proven to be essential in preparing students for their legal careers. Recognizing this need, our institution has taken the initiative to organize the 3rd RILS Inter-University Moot Court Competition to foster competitive spirit and provide a platform for students to hone their advocacy skills.
This year’s competition witnessed participation from over 84 students, representing 28 teams from across the country. Initially, the competition was planned for 24 teams. However, due to overwhelming interest, we increased the number of teams to accommodate the demand. The brochure was released on the 8th of November 2024, and although registrations were scheduled to close on the 29th of November 2024, we had to close them early on the 20th of November due to an overwhelming response.
The competition commenced with the inauguration ceremony held on the 26th of December 2024 at 2:30 PM. The ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of Hon’ble Sri Justice V. Ramasubramanian, Former Justice of the Supreme Court of India, who joined us virtually, and Prof. Dr. C. Basavaraju, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Karnataka State Law University, Hubballi, as the Guest of Honour. Their inspiring words set the tone for the event. The ceremony also included the unveiling of the trophies and the draw of lots, which ensured a smooth start to the competition.
On the 27th of December 2024, the preliminary rounds began with all 28 teams competing in the presence of 14 distinguished judges. The quarter-finals were conducted later that same day, narrowing down the competition to the best-performing teams.
The semi-finals and finals were held on the 28th of December 2024. The final round was presided over by an esteemed panel of judges, including Hon’ble Justice B. N. Srikrishna, Former Justice of the Supreme Court of India; Hon’ble Justice P. S. Dinesh Kumar, Former Chief Justice of the High Court of Karnataka and currently the Presiding Officer of the Securities Appellate Tribunal, Mumbai; and Adv. George Pothan Poothicote, Advocate, Supreme Court of India. The competition concluded with the announcement of results, which we are eagerly awaiting.
